Input selection is made using the front panel pushbutton switches, or remotely using the RS-422/RS-485 serial interface. All video inputs and outputs use BNC connectors. The output gain and frequency response are internally adjustable. Switching occurs during the vertical interval of the output video.
Up to 8 RS-81 series switchers can be slaved together. Combining the RS-81V with the RS-81A creates an 8x1 audio follow video router, complete with breakaway.
